Verizon’s Storm 2 (9550) & Curve 2 (8530) launch dates
August 25, 2009 by Gregor Schiemann
Boy Genius got hold of some pictures showing the approximate launch dates (for Verizon) of 2 future BlackBerry smartphones.

The Storm 9550 is probably the most anticipated smartphone of the year. It was previously announced for November or December, but RIM obviously are ready to launch it much sooner.

The Curve 8530 (previously codenamed Aries) is referred to as the Curve 2. It’s basically the same device as the Curve 8520 (previously codenamed Gemini) only with CDMA support. It was specifically developed for certain carriers such as Verizon, Sprint, Telus, Bell, Virgin and others.
Unfortunately, the pictures don’t show the estimated prices for those models, so we can only wait for the actual launch. Or maybe some leaks and rumors…

Storm 2 Video w/ focus on the Hardware
August 25, 2009 by Gregor Schiemann
Salmondrin made another great video. This time, he reviews the hardware configuration of the phone and compares it to the 1st generation Storm and the iPhone.
As we all know by now, the biggest improvement is the screen and the Piezo-technology behind it. Yesterday, some pictures of a disassembled Storm 2 appeared on the Crackberry forums.

This picture shows perfectly, why navigating and typing with the new Storm will be so much better and easier than any other touch-screen device. The Storm 2 has a button in each corner of the screen instead of 1 central button, which will drastically improve the SureType feeling.

RIM working on a new browser w/ Flash & Silverlight support
August 20, 2009 by Gregor Schiemann
Recently it became official, that more than 50% of all smartphones in the US are BlackBerrys. However, none of them had a browser that was capable of rendering Flash or Silverlight (not even 3rd-party apps). Obviously, RIM heard our prayers and announced a new browser which will fully support Flash (not flash light!) and Silverlight plug-in content.

Apple’s IPhone series supposedly has one of the best browsers currently known in the smartphone world. Since the rivalry between Apple and RIM is only growing stronger, it was only a matter of time before BlackBerrys would get such an update.
Unfortunately, as it appears, this won’t be happening any time soon. The new browser won’t be ready until next summer (or late spring). Still, that’s fantastic news.

ANOTHER New BlackBerry Storm 2 (9550 Odin) video
August 19, 2009 by Gregor Schiemann
Only two days after we posted the previous Storm 2 video there is a new one! YouTube user iluvblackberry posted his video review of the new storm, showing some interesting features of the phone not seen on video yet – it runs on OS v5.0.0.161 (not the newest available version) and proves the existence of WiFi!
The video is a bit blurry, so you won’t be able to see all of the details. Also, there’s this loud background music and no comment from the author, but still – if you’re a 9550 fan (which I’m sure you are) you are going to like this…

FutureX theme reviews: What others think about our work

… FutureX is totally graphically pleasing on any device and has some super cool features built into it. … FutureX looks good – from the icons right down too the wallpaper it is well-designed through and through.
… This latest release, FutureX definitely raises the bar in theme concept designs. … Each one contains a hidden dock of customizable icons. To hide the dock again, you just have to scroll down. And Hedone Design hits yet another home run!
… Basically get ya 15 favorite apps & get ya favorite wallpaper and ya Blackberry will look as sleek as can be. … You got to hand it to them for giving each icon such detail to stand out on its very own. I have no problems with them at all whether it be the colors, shapes, etc. The top bar sports your usual time, date, battery, and notifications.
All the icons in each group are customizable and you can change the wallpaper to any you would like.
… So there you have it. Fifteen icons on the main screen without resource-intensive animations and without making it look like a normal icon theme. It makes for an excellent theme all around.
Benezblog.de (german)
You can customize the theme entirely to your wishes. Each icon on the home screen is customizable.
FutureX is totally graphically pleasing on any device and has some super cool features built into it. The theme itself has 15 customizable icons on the main screen split into 3 sections …
LaBlackBerry.com (spanish)
Hedone … stepping back strong and adding another major theme to his extensive gallery. The background is clean, mixing the yellow of a field with the blue of the sky. And the play with the icons is something new …
BlackBerryItalia.it (italian)
This theme is for everyone, who’s growing tired of conventional theme design. The name FutureX already indicates, that this theme sets the guidelines for a new generation of high quality theme design.
It’s one of the few BlackBerry themes that will allow you to have your most frequently used apps at your fingertips. The background is sexy and it’s sure to make your device more appealing.
The novelty of the FutureX theme is the integration of 15 freely customizable buttons – without slowing the device down or having to give up the wallpaper.
